I was hired as junior faculty when Chuck was President. My initial opportunity to interact with him was over a student tragedy,when I was struck by his deep engagement and humanity. I got to know Chuck better after he stepped down as President, and this impression of a fine, thoughtful person was reinforced enormously. Chuck's contributions to the advancement of equity at MIT are rightly legend. It was an enormous privilege to have been a faculty member at MIT under President Vest.
